Ever since United Airlines banned two 10-year-old girls from boarding a plane on March 26th, because they were wearing leggings, the fairness of airplane dress codes has been up for debate. Obviously this was a ridiculous ban as 10 year olds should be wearing leggings, the uniform of basically every girl (and some boys) from 2 to 15 years old the western world over. So maybe what the real question is, 'Should you (as a bona fide adult) be wearing leggings on the plane?" As with most controversial fashion items, it's all about how you style them. Personally I've recently re-discovered the legging and my new favourites are Heat-tech leggings from Uniqlo a bargain at $14.90. I wear them on school drop-offs (which is the outdoor equivalent of getting on a plane) and pairing them with a navy turtleneck, sneakers and a parker. And depending on whether I have time for makeup a navy baseball cap.
Check Out How These Celebrities Prove That Leggings Can Be Chic At The Airport by Following These 3 Rules:
Rule 1. Accessorize
Sienna Miller could look amazing in a trash bag but regardless she still plays by the 'dress the leggings up' rule by pairing luxe accessories (Fur lined Gucci loafers, Proenza bucket bag and cool sunnies) wither her leopard leggings.
Rule 2. Structured Monotone
Kendal pretty much wears head to toe ultra-flattering-black and finishes off with a structured coat and dark sunglasses. The result is super polished but ultimately comfortable.
Rule 3. Pair With Classics
Elizabeth Olsen adds the iconic trench coat, a panama hat and Cartier Love bracelet to complete her ultra chic look. For extra style points: Try a menswear inspired tote too.
